Hunting the Canadian Goose in
Ontario Canada
All waterfowl hunts are over water from
shore blinds. Bring your retriever! Your dog is welcome, and will prove to be
an asset. We are minutes north of Lake of the Woods, on the eastern limit of
the North American central flyway. Our area is dotted with lakes, rivers and
marshes. Wild rice grows commonly in most local marshes and provides great
feasting for northern flocks on their way to warmer climes. Because these
northern birds have not yet had any hunting pressure at this early stage in
their trip south, the birds are large and healthy. Early season birds consist
of mallards, teal, wood ducks, ring-necks, bluebills, Canada Geese. Hunting at
this time of year consists of morning and evening shoots, combined with daytime
grouse-hunting. Late season sees large northern mallards, blue-bills, goldeye
(buffle-heads) arriving on cold Arctic winds. Large flocks typify the bird
patterns at this time of year, and good hunting can be had throughout the day.

Hunting the Canadian Geese in
Ontario Canada
Canada geese on the water The big
splash One of our flagship hunts has always been hunting Canada geese over the
water. It's a hunt that many hunters never get to experience and is unique and
exciting. Birds returning to the water act and decoy differently than in a
field and the calling technique is different, with a more mellow and eerie
sound. Nothing raises the hackles on your neck like the moan of a lone goose
flying low along the river. Water hunts are great for watching some incredible
dog work as well, a significant addition to the total hunting experience. Mixed
bag While duck hunting on the water, we harvest a wide variety of species,
including: mallard, pintail, widgeon, gadwall, teal, wood duck, scaup, ringbill
and goldeneye. The species harvested depends on time of the season and the
location. Some of our areas are species specific while others give you the
opportunity for a mixed-bag harvest.

You Cannot Go Wrong With
Goose Hunting
by
Razvan Jr
Generally known as true bird hunting
fans favorite, goose hunting is surprisingly overlooked by many bird
hunting enthusiasts in favor of duck, quail or pheasant hunts. Despite efforts
being made to popularize goose among the target segment of people, it seems to
fall short against other types of bunting. Nevertheless, goose hunting has its
devoted fans that anxiously wait each seasons kick-off. And their wait is
rewarded every time, granting them a whole new adventure with every distinct
occasion. Deciding to become a goose hunter will bring you no regrets, we can
assure, as the excitement and thrill of such a hunt will make anyone think
twice before trying something else.
Its standard of popularity may not be at the
levels fans everywhere would wish, but this is also an advantage to the ones
that truly appreciate goose hunting for the timeless joy it brings to their
souls each ant every time. Given the many sides of the matter, we can only hope
the future will bring better days for goose hunting and the people that make it
a significant part of their lives.
A reasonable explanation as to why people
apparently avoid goose hunting is hidden in the birds anatomical
structure. Although its size is quite remarkable, as compared to other game
birds, the goose has a very small vital zone, where every hit is lethal. This
means that the shot has to hit that respective zone for it to be called a
success, otherwise the bird stands a good chance of escaping. For some, this is
the true beauty of goose hunts, the lack of predictability at all times, never
knowing whether the bird will fall to the ground or not, keeping your fingers
crossed every time you pull the trigger. It is a known fact that, in all
hunting varieties, luck is an ally whose support can prove decisive and no
hunter is a good hunter without it by his side. So if youre feeling
lucky, forget about that poker game, and go hunt some geese instead.
An interesting aspect of any goose hunt is
calling, and it requires diligent practice before it can be mastered. The
result, however, will be tremendous as every single time you will have reasons
to be glad about your results. Decoys are essential components of the calling
process, and experts advise you to always bring with you a variety of decoys
differentiating by color, shape and size, as to suit every occasion you might
meet. Along the way you will be able to tell if certain flocks of geese can be
called or not, if and how they will respond to your calling, whether or not a
certain spot is fit for calling, etc.
All in all, goose hunting lacks the same
degree of popularity as other bird hunting varieties, but its still an
important branch of the game bird genre. Its dedicated fans are trying to tell
the world how beautiful and relaxing goose hunting can be, so if you want to be
a part of this, dont hesitate and join in.

enthusiast and has plenty of years of experience in the field. He is now

Hunter
Orange
The objective of the hunter orange regulation
is to maximize hunter safety without negatively impacting hunting success.
Under this regulation, all licensed
hunters, including archery hunters hunting during the gun season for deer
and moose, are required to wear hunter orange. As well, all black bear hunters
hunting during the black bear season are required to wear hunter orange except
when in a tree stand. (This exception is in place because, unlike deer and
moose, black bears have colour vision.) Waterfowl hunters, wild turkey hunters
and archery hunters in archery-only areas are exempt from the hunter orange
requirement.
A hunter orange garment and head cover must
be worn. The hunter orange garment must cover a minimum of 400 square inches
(2,580 square cm) above the waist and be visible from all sides. Open mesh or
camouflage hunter orange must not be part of the 400 square inches. A hunting
coat or vest generally meets this requirement. The hunter orange head cover may
have: open mesh; a peak or brim colour other than hunter orange; a crest or
logo which does not completely cover the hunter orange on the side where it is
affixed. The head cover may not contain camouflage material.
Hunter orange colour standards are generally
consistent across North America. Manufacturers can provide information
regarding clothing compliance with this standard. Hunter orange product is
available at the
O.F.A.H. Online Store.
