Duck Hunting on Rainy Lake in
Ontario Canada
Camp Narrows Lodge, on Rainy Lake
offers hunters an incredible unguided or guided duck or Canada goose hunting
outfitters package. Ontario duck hunting is awesome because waterfowl flock to
our area of Northwestern Ontario to feed on the abundance of wild rice. Our
area of Canada has a large population of local ducks and geese, as well, we are
located on the prime migration routes for puddle or diver ducks. Our guides can
outfit duck hunts that fit all your needs. We are a boat-in resort, so we are
located just minutes away from prime duck hunting areas. Each bay is a little
different, but one thing is for certain, they all contain wild rice.

Hunting Ducks in Ontario
Canada
Duck & Goose Hunting is very
popular in this area. Hunters do not have to go very far as there are usually
abundant waterfowl in our bay right in front of the lodge. Their migratory
routes pass right over Lake of the Woods in our area. There are also a variety
of rice beds and neighbouring grain fields for waterfowl to feed in. There are
a quite a number of species of Ducks found here, with Blue Bills and Mallards
probably being the favourites. You will see a wide variety of ducks in the
early season of September: Mallards, Teal and Wood Ducks. Following those are
the Ring-necked Ducks, Bluebills, Black Ducks, Buffleheads, and Goldeneyes
which follow usually in early October. The geese found here are the Canada
Goose and the Snow Goose. You will see them flying in a "V" shape.

Hunting Ducks in Ontario
Canada
With over 14,000 islands, each with
numerous wild rice-filled bays, most duck hunters will think they have died and
gone to duck heaven. Located on the Mississippi flyway, along the
Ontario/Minnesota border, we hunt according to the seasons and the prevailing
wildfowl patterns. The Ontario hunting season starts mid September and provides
excellent puddle duck hunting. You'll bag Mallards, Woodies, and Teal, with an
occasionally a Widgeon, Gadwall, or Pintail for color. By approximately October
1, the first migrations of diver ducks arrive.
A typical daily bag of divers will
include Bluebills (greater and lesser), Buffleheads, and Goldeneye. Canvasback
and Redheads are seen daily. Grouse season opens along with the duck season and
provides and excellent midday diversion. In addition, most of our duck hunting
clients take advantage of the incredible fall Walleye and Muskie with a
combination trip. Bay Store Camp specializes in duck hunting by providing
camouflage boats, decoys, and retrievers. We keep in touch with the daily
feeding and flight patterns in order to provide you with the information needed
to maximum your hunting experience.

Carving and Painting
Duck Decoys
by
Ken Bishop
Duck Decoys are constructed of different
materials. Most of which are factory manufactured of molded materials such as
plastic. Ive seen some made of a rubber like material you can inflate to
use them and deflate them for easy transportation. You can factory manufactured
duck decoys made from cork like material.
There are very good carvers out there who
carve decoys from wood. Their artwork can really make those pieces of wood come
to life once they have them painted up. Many people look for these decoys and
pay good money to get them. This type of decoy is mostly used as art for
collectors but there are people out there who carve working decoys for duck
hunting. There is a self satisfaction and great admiration by other waterfowl
enthusiast for people who carve there own decoys and find them really work for
them as a duck hunter or even a wildlife photographer.
One problem that occurs when using decoys is
the paint comes off after time. After a while those life like decoys can become
very un-life like. Once this problem comes to affect you, there are a few
choices you have to remedy this. You can purchase new decoys or you can repaint
the old ones.
Dont get all frustrated this can be fun
and you can purchase books on the subject to learn how to paint your own
decoys. Think of the satisfaction you will get when the decoys you paint up
yourself come back to life once again. When you put them in the water and they
actually work for you.
Why not get into carving your own duck
decoys. Think of the pleasure that would bring whether you want to put them on
your mantle or in the water and use them as working decoys. You can get books
on carving duck decoys as well.
Whatever your enjoyment is, duck hunting,
collector, photographer or hobbyist, carving and painting your own duck decoys
can bring you great pleasure.

Hunter
Orange
The objective of the hunter orange regulation
is to maximize hunter safety without negatively impacting hunting success.
Under this regulation, all licensed
hunters, including archery hunters hunting during the gun season for deer
and moose, are required to wear hunter orange. As well, all black bear hunters
hunting during the black bear season are required to wear hunter orange except
when in a tree stand. (This exception is in place because, unlike deer and
moose, black bears have colour vision.) Waterfowl hunters, wild turkey hunters
and archery hunters in archery-only areas are exempt from the hunter orange
requirement.
A hunter orange garment and head cover must
be worn. The hunter orange garment must cover a minimum of 400 square inches
(2,580 square cm) above the waist and be visible from all sides. Open mesh or
camouflage hunter orange must not be part of the 400 square inches. A hunting
coat or vest generally meets this requirement. The hunter orange head cover may
have: open mesh; a peak or brim colour other than hunter orange; a crest or
logo which does not completely cover the hunter orange on the side where it is
affixed. The head cover may not contain camouflage material.
Hunter orange colour standards are generally
consistent across North America. Manufacturers can provide information
regarding clothing compliance with this standard. Hunter orange product is
available at the
O.F.A.H. Online Store.
